Viable Waste and Recycling Solution – Brimsmore Garden Centre
The Back Story
Like a lot of the Horticulture industry, the environment has always been an important factor to Brimsmore Garden Centre.
They have been segregating their different waste streams for a long time and recently contacted Melissa, here at Orwak Easi UK Ltd, to pop in and assess their waste and recycling, to see if any of our baling or compacting solutions would be viable for them.
They did have reservations, as they had previously trialed a machine with a different baler supplier who had put a machine in based purely on price. That company did not give much thought to the size of their cardboard or the volume of different recyclables. So needless to say, the process proved to be very labour intensive and the trial with that supplier was not successful.
The Solution
However, they gave us a try and our trial of the Orwak 3150 was a completely different story!
It’s the perfect solution for them, the Orwak 3150 is the biggest of our single-phase machines, its big enough to cope with big boxes but small enough to switch between different waste streams on regular rotation to avoid stock piling too much of each material.
They are using the machine for cardboard, pots and trays and the empty compost bags that they allow customer to return to them!
The Results
The results speak for themselves. (See the photos)
To give you an idea, all seven large sacks of empty compost bags were compacted into just one bale, and the space saving alone is amazing.
So, as well as helping them reach their environmental goals, the baler is enabling them to regain valuable space in their yard as they will also be removing the large cardboard skip, have less waste lorries turning up and disrupting their site and they have future proofed budgeting for the costs of recyclable waste.
