MAKE YOUR WASTE PROCESS MORE COST EFFECTIVE

Waste management is increasingly important, both in everyone’s domestic and business lives. And for good reason.

The number of landfill sites in the UK has reduced dramatically in recent years and in 2010 the Government predicted that we will run out of space for our waste by 2018. Waste-to-landfill is an area where the UK lags behind most of Europe. Traditionally we have relied more heavily on landfill than in the rest of Europe, and haven’t really addressed the growing challenge of reducing this. Consequently we are amongst the worst performers.

The process of managing waste can be time consuming and inconvenient in our domestic lives. It is even more so for businesses, furthermore it can also be costly if it’s not done efficiently.

Businesses now need to take a more structured and responsible approach to waste management. Not only to meet requirements set out in law which are designed to reduce the waste we send to landfill, but also to maximise recycling opportunities where possible.

The Government introduced Legislation which in basic terms means – waste prevention where achievable, followed by re-use, recycling, recovery and, as a last resort, disposal.

Cardboard and packaging presents the biggest problem at many business sites. Quantities can be substantial in many industries, such as retail and distribution. The time and effort required to ensure it takes up minimal space in skips is time that could be better spent. Much cardboard and other packaging is recyclable and preferable to landfill disposal, therefore it is better for businesses to carefully consider how it is managed.

Cardboard and packaging can take up a great deal of space, even after the best attempts to disassemble and flatten it. However, Orwak Power Balers can overcome this problem by compacting it and therefore making it easy to recycle.

Historically, balers have been large, clunky devices and their size has dictated where they are positioned, or if they can be used at all. It would clearly be far more effective if balers were more compact and could be positioned nearer the source of the waste.

Orwak’s range of power balers have achieved just this through our innovative approach to the compacting process.  Due to the new compacting mechanism within the body of the device, instead of ‘pushing down’ on the waste to compact it, they ‘pull down’. This results in a baler with a much lower profile, and most of all – more power. As a result, this gives businesses more flexibility as to where it can be located and used, while still having a powerful baler.

This innovation is how Orwak is enabling businesses to take a more efficient approach to waste management.
