Working With FareShare Yorkshire
We have recently worked closely with FareShare Yorkshire, a charity that distribute surplus food from large retailers and currently support almost 400 charities and community groups with enough food for 4.4 million meals each year, to deal with some of their recyclable waste. Here we share the success story of their journey with Orwak Easi UK Ltd.
The Problem
FareShare, like many businesses and charities, had a problem with cardboard. The cardboard was being stored in tonne bags that were taking up space. It also required a lot of volunteer time breaking the boxes down.
They also had a lot of plastic baskets that they received fruit and veg in. These baskets were just stacked and stored until volunteers had enough time or space to return to distributors or drop at recycling centres.
The Solution
The solution, an Orwak Compact 3120 baler.
The baler allows FareShare and its volunteers to bale the cardboard and crush the plastic baskets into neat and tidy bales. These bales are then collected by a recycling firm.
Not only has the installation of the Orwak baler saved them valuable volunteer hours that can now be used to focus on helping with the distribution, they are also saving space. Space that can be used more effectively to support the work the charity does.
The Results
The results are impressive. They produce some amazing bales of both cardboard and plastic that help with saving time and space. We even popped along to volunteer for the day. Matthew and Terry went along not long after the installation and volunteered to help with the backlog of waste.
